Yes it is winter in Melbourne, and yes it is absolutely freezing. Lucky for me I love winter but my skin…not so much. I have found the perfect base products that really keep me hydrated throughout the day, and don’t cling to any tightness or dry patches that come with the winter territory.
Firstly is a good hydrating/illuminating primer. My favourites at the moment are definitely the loreal lumi majique and the innoxa one. These, either separately or together, work great to hydrate my skin and give me that glowy look we all love. I then spray my face with Max Fix +. This helps the application of foundation but I mainly use it as it feels so nice and hydrating on my skin, especially in the morning. I always keep a travel size in my bag so I can spray throughout the day to freshen up my make up and make my skin feel more hydrated.
For foundation, my favourites lately have definitely been the Maybelline Fit Me Dewy and Smooth, and the Cover girl Ready Set Gorgeous. I apply these with a damp beauty sponge, which helps any foundation feel more hydrating, and give it a light luminous finish.
As for concealer, I try to use something that isn’t too thick as I don’t want it to be so heavy that it sticks to any dry patches, or crease on me. This changes a lot, but lately the Urban Decay Naked Skin, Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous and Rimmel Match Perfection have been working very well. Again, I apply this with a damp beauty sponge, mainly because it feels nice and cooling under my eyes.
I then set my under eyes only with a light translucent powder. My go to for a while now has been the ELF ‘Cool’ powder which is amazing! I don’t set the rest of my face as generally it doesn’t need it, especially in winter.
For bronzer, blush and highlight the Colour Pop products have been great. They are that kind of moussey, more creamy formula so they feel nice on the skin and aren’t as obvious as a powder I feel. Other cream blushes I have been reaching for are The Balm ‘How Bout’ Them Apples’ palette, and this Too Faced Cream Cheek product.
That has pretty much been my go to base on a normal make up day! Any combination of these steps and products help my skin feel hydrated during the winter months.
